evolution
cleaning out my work computer, i found a photo of my first, prototype oobees! i find these little guys soooo funny and it's interesting that i actually like the one on the far left the best now when at the time i thought he was "not right at all" and wanted a more squat shape. oobee has been slowly evolving over the years and i recently revised the pattern on heavy interfacing (thanks again for the tip, jo) after using the same tissue paper covered with invisible tape (yes, really) pattern that i first drew 2+ years ago. really, it's hard to even call it a pattern as it's just the rough body shape - i cut the face, arms, ears, tail and space between the legs freehand and just use the body shape pattern to make sure i have the basic size/height right.
alda le oobee
billie le oobee
here are the first couple of oobees made with the new pattern - what a difference in shape from the chunky fellas at the top of the page! i've popped these two in my handmade shop, along with a gorgeous printed linen cutie who was snapped up this morning already. i had quite a debate over whether or not i could allow myself to keep alda, the first one, and finally decided that, no, i don't need another oobee. he's made from a stunning piece of Liberty cotton canvas and the colours are just so perfect, quite hard to let go of.
...and a new batch of fleurs are in the shop as well, all bright and colourful and ready to be chewed on by wee ones. i'm quite pleased with the amount of craft i'm getting done these days, it's amazing what an hour or two in the sewing room or in front of the tv with scissors and a box of scraps can produce. imagine what i can get done once i'm finally finished work - 12 more days after today... sweet.

your oobies ... oh my goodness. the oobie on the far right in the top photo is my favorite, reminds me of an ewok.. :)
ReplyDeletei've been seriously impressed by your recent levels of sewing as well... good one you! (i know i would rather be doing this than managing a team of tradies in a last ditch attempt to get the renos done on time!)
ReplyDeleteyour fleurs are just beautiful... think i may have to send out a baby gift list just so i can get my hands on one!
take care, Hannah
Oh look at those little fatties! (I mean that in a nice way of course -not being size-ist at all) I love the ewok guy as well.
