10 weeks and counting...

i hit the 30 week mark in my pregnancy last saturday and the thought of having only 10 weeks left until the baby arrives (i know, i know, it could very well be 12 weeks) is both exhilarating and terrifying all at the same time. we have so much to get done house renovation-wise, although realistically, the baby will be staying in our room in a bassinette for the first three months so the nursery isn't a huge panic to get painted and set up. i just want to see it all finished - pictures hung, clothes folded and put away, all bright and cheerful and hopefully cute-as-can-be. i've been feeling really great and creatively inspired to a degree that is almost ridiculous - i will grab any hour, half hour even, that i can to work on things in the sewing room. i wish i could have this momentum all the time, minus the restless-sleeping, clothes-not-fitting, back-aches and acid-indigestion. over the weekend i finished off five of the quilted bibs that i was working on the patchwork for last week:

i really love the way they came together and it's been a great way to use up the huge amount of vintage bias binding and small scraps i have lying around. i opted for an old-school tie closure even though i know that a snap would be easier to use, i just like the look of the ties so much and wanted to give the bibs a more vintage styled feel. the backs are soft, white, toweling so they're nice and thick without being too bulky. i'm keeping two for myself, sending a couple away as gifts and then i should have a couple to pop into the shop at the end of the month. i was thinking they'd even be nice framed up and hanging in a nursery, a cheery, old fashioned bolt of colour...

  1. i love the thought of you putting together your mama nest. luc's nursery pretty much just ended up being a place we "visited" every once in awhile... but oh! was it adorable.

oh those bibs are really cute! 30 weeks! you're really getting close! do you know is it a boy or a girl? or are you keeping it a surprise?
i'm 16 weeks and hoping to feel movement, soon, so i will 'know' the baby's there and well... isn't it all so exciting!
i often feel i really want to get into the study and start making it into a nursery! there's just the little obstacle of buying bookshelves for the living room to move all the books from the study, finding a new place for the computer (err, that could be a problem, unless we want it in the living room, too...) putting in nicer carpet or cork tiles or something, painting it... and THEN i could start on curtains and pictures and furniture and toys...

  4. You have such flair with putting fabrics together, there's always something new for the eye to linger on. Beautiful. Not long, but still long enough to feel like you have time up your sleeve!

  5. In my experience the final two weeks always feels like ten, so relax, you have plenty of time.

    Those bibs are stunning.

  6. Yay not long to go now! I agree with Suse on the plenty of time approach - however I was caught by surprise 4 weeks early so um er yeah.

    The bibs look great!

Make hay while the sun shines and you have all that nesting stuff going on too.

These are wonderful! You have a terrific eye for combining patterns -- love 'em! Your little one will be very stylish indeed. Hang in there... I remember the last 10 weeks being the hardest, mostly in terms of sleeping (or lack thereof).
