my weekend

looked pretty much like this. poor mae is desperately sick, suffering what i suppose is the aftermath of her mumps, measles and rubella vaccination earlier this week. the maternal health nurse said we could have high fever and head cold symptoms 5 to 12 days later and we are right on cue. yesterday she would not sleep and had to be coddled until she finally gave in in shane's arms at 10:30pm. today she is the opposite and does not want to be awake. she didn't get up until almost nine, fell asleep on a walk with her grandpa around 10:30 (and she NEVER sleeps in the stroller so you know she is just not well), woke up at 11:30 and here we are an hour later with her asleep in the car in the driveway and me perched on her chair in her room so i can keep an eye on her. i have a cup of tea, a little plate of cookies, my computer, the ipod/speakers in her room on shuffle, two books that were just delivered by the postman (the happiest toddler on the block and the no cry sleep solution for toddlers, will let you know how they are) and i'm all cosy with the gorgeous, pale pink, alpaca blanket that was given to mae when she was born. i feel a little guilty that i am so comfortable when she is sick but it's LOVELY to relax a bit after a trying couple of days and i'm so happy that she is getting some sleep.

  1. Aw, that's no fun :-( I hope she's sleeping off the last of it and will be back on top of things soon. Enjoy your quiet moment, it's totally fair.

  9. I hope Mae is better soon. She is doing the best thing by sleeping so her body can cope with it all. It isnt fun when they are tired, sick and wont settle so I would relax just like you are whilst she is sleeping, and dont feel guilty!

  10. Hope she get better soon Leslie. I can totally understand appreciating her sleeping a little more when it sounds like she does precious little of it.

  11. Never feel guilty for looking after yourself! Doing so is, in fact, a gift to Mae. Looking after a sick baby is very very hard work.

  12. poor mae, the after effects of the MMR shots are no fun at all! ella had a fever of 104.5 F - the nurse told us to take her to the emergency room if her fever spiked to 105 F, but warned us that if we took her in and she was only at 104.5 F we'd be turned away. we took her temperature every 15 minutes for three days straight watching for that half a degree increase, which in the end, never came - we cooled her with cool baths, gave her tylenol and sat helplessly while she slept, then listened to her screams when we disturbed her to take her temp - so much for a little body to deal with.
hugs for mae and a wish for some more relaxing moments for mama :)

My eldest reacted to the MMR much in the same way 30 years ago! Your blog reminded me...
    Take care, all of you....
